THE TRAVELLER – from Bumper Sticker Bessie

What do you see when you look at me?
What do you see?
What do you know when you say you know me?
What do you know?
For I am a traveller my friend and the road that I tread
isn’t straight
And I sing my own song
As I walk along
Though there are those who tell me to wait.
Wait for whom?
And who are they?
Ah now there’s a question well asked!
For they’ll say that they’re friends
And be there to the end
But they’ll put themselves first
And me last.
So I travel instead
I survive on the bread
And in the bread I trust
I don’t carry a bag
I don’t wear any shoes
And my feet are not covered in dust.
Some say I am odd
‘Cos I’m talking with God
Ah, they live fast asleep in their dreams!
So sleepy heads
I will leave you in bed
As I rip through this world at the seams.
